Met dept says heavy rains in Rajasthan to continue for next few days; trains cancelled, diverted


Heavy rains lashed parts of Rajasthan leading to the cancellation or diversion of trains due to damage to a railway track, officials said Wednesday.


 


The meteorological department has predicted that the period of heavy rain will continue in the state for the next few days.


 


A North Western Railway official said five trains were cancelled, two were partially cancelled and the route of another was changed due to damage to the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer railway track.


 


According to the Jaipur Met Centre, in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday, rains were recorded with thunder at most places in the state.


 


Heavy rain was recorded at some places in Jaipur, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Banswara, Kota, Bundi, Baran, Tonk, Jodhpur, Jalore and Pali districts and heavy to very heavy rain wasrecorded at some places in Udaipur, Bhilwara and Barmer districts.


 


Rishabhdev in Udaipur, with 167 mm, recorded the highest rainfall. In Gudha Malani of Barmer, 147 mm of rain was recorded and Kotdi of Bhilwara saw 119 mm rainfall.

One of Puja Khedkar’s disability certificates may be forged: Police to Delhi HC


The Delhi Police has told the high court that former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar submitted two disability certificates to show multiple disabilities and its probe has revealed that one of the documents may be “forged” and “fabricated”. The Delhi Police made the submission in response to the anticipatory bail plea of Khedkar, who has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quota benefits.

Varanasi court sets Sep 6 as next date for hearing on plea for ASI survey in Gyanvapi complex


A judge here has fixed the next date of hearing as September 6 on the petition demanding ASI survey of the remaining parts of the Gyanvapi complex, a lawyer said on Wednesday. The representatives of the Muslim side were present in the court and are expected to put forth their views on the matter during the next hearing.

Arson in Manipur’s Jiribam district, retired police officer’s house burnt


Fresh arson erupted in Manipur’s Jiribam district after suspected ‘tribal village volunteers’ set a house on fire early Wednesday morning, police said. The three-room house at Jakuradhor in the district belonged to a retired police officer. The family had vacated the property following previous violence in the district, police added.


Armed men struck around 3.30 am, taking advantage of the darkness to burn down the house, located 28 km from Jiribam district headquarters, near Hmar-dominated Pherzawl district, police said.

India provided more climate finance than many rich nations in 2022: Report


India contributed $ 1.28 billion in climate finance through multilateral development banks (MDBs) in 2022, surpassing the contributions of many developed countries, according to an analysis, conducted by the UK-based think tank ODI and the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance,  This comes amid a renewed push by some developed countries to broaden the donor base for climate finance to include developing countries like China and Saudi Arabia.

Supreme Court stays Gujarat HC order rejecting affidavit filed by ‘The Times of India’


The top court today stayed an order of the Gujarat High Court that had rejected an affidavit filed by “The Times of India”, tendering an apology for “wrong reporting” on the hearing of a matter. The high court had, on September 2, granted three more days to “The Times of India” and two other newspapers to tender a public apology in their publications in bold letters on the front page, clearly intimating the public about the “wrong reporting made by them” on August 13.

Police officer shot dead in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa


A police officer was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Pakistan’s restive northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday. The police constable, identified as Waqar Ahmed, was shot dead near his residence in Nawarkhel village in Lakki Marwat district bordering Afghanistan. He died on the spot and his body was shifted to a hospital for postmortem.
